Rural Municipality of Daly, Manitoba

The Flag of the Rural Municipality of Daly, Manitoba

The flag of Daly, Manitoba is a symbol of rural heritage, prairie pride, and local governance. Though Daly no longer exists as an independent municipality—it was amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Odanah in 2015 to form the Municipality of Riverdale—its flag remains an emblem of community identity and agricultural roots.

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Daly was incorporated in 1883 and was located in southwestern Manitoba, just west of the city of Brandon. Named after Thomas Mayne Daly, a prominent lawyer and politician who played a key role in Manitoba’s early development, the RM of Daly encompassed a landscape of fertile farmland, rolling hills, and small rural settlements. Its history is closely tied to agriculture and transportation, with a population that valued independence, community, and tradition.

The flag is a blue Canadian Pale style with the logo of the municipality at the centre. The simple round logo with the name of the municipality around the municipalities motto, ‘Forward’.

In 2015, the Province of Manitoba required smaller municipalities with populations under 1,000 to amalgamate in order to streamline local governance. As a result, the RM of Daly merged with the RM of Odanah to form the Municipality of Riverdale. While Daly as an administrative entity ceased to exist, its identity is still preserved in historical records, community memory, and symbolic artifacts like the municipal flag.
