Flag of Minto, Ontario

The Town of Minto, located in midwestern Ontario, Canada, is a vibrant municipality formed in 1999 through the amalgamation of the Township of Minto, the Towns of Harriston and Palmerston, and the Village of Clifford. This union brought together diverse communities, each with its own rich history and cultural identity, under a single administrative umbrella. As with many municipalities, symbols such as flags play a crucial role in representing the town's heritage, unity, and values.

Prior to the amalgamation, the individual communities within what is now Minto had their own distinct symbols. Notably, the former Village of Minto had a flag featuring a white field with a central emblem depicting a red deer, encircled by the village's name in blue. This design highlighted the local fauna and underscored the community's connection to its natural surroundings.

Following the 1999 amalgamation, the newly formed Town of Minto sought to establish a unified identity.  The flag features a white field with two prominent elements: a detailed canton in the upper hoist corner and a circular emblem toward the fly side. The canton consists of a blue background patterned with white ermine spots, intersected by a black and white saltire (diagonal cross). Within the cross are golden sheaves of wheat, symbolizing the region's deep agricultural roots and prosperity. The ermine pattern adds a heraldic touch, traditionally representing dignity and historical significance.

On the right side of the flag, a circular emblem contains a golden stag’s head, surrounded by a ring of golden stars on a blue background. The stag is a common heraldic symbol representing strength, vigilance, and a connection to nature, which is fitting for a rural township with a rich natural landscape. The surrounding stars may symbolize the unity of local communities or historical townships within Minto

The Town of Minto has established guidelines to ensure the respectful and appropriate display of flags within the municipality. According to the town's flag policy, when multiple flags are displayed together, the National Flag of Canada holds the position of honor. In arrangements with three flagstaffs, the Canadian flag is positioned in the center, flanked by the Ontario provincial flag on the left and the Town of Minto flag on the right. This protocol reflects the town's commitment to national pride while honoring provincial and local identities.
