Inuksuit, stone structures built by the Inuit, have historically served as landmarks and navigational aids in the harsh Arctic terrain, making them a powerful symbol of resilience and direction.

Moving clockwise, the next symbols on the flag include a moose head, walrus, seal, narwhal, and polar bear. These animals are crucial to the survival and cultural practices of the Inuit people. Each creature is an essential part of the region’s ecosystem and has historically been a vital source of food, clothing, and materials for the Inuit population. The town’s official Inuit name is Qausuittuq (ᖃᐅᓱᐃᑦᑐᖅ), which means “the place that never melts,” referring to the Arctic region’s perpetually frozen landscape.

The design of the flag was created by Eugene Ipavec on June 22, 2010, and serves as an important visual identity for the community of Resolute Bay.
