Yacht Club du Quebec

The burgee of the Yacht Club du Quebec

The flag of the Yacht-Club de Québec (YCQ) is a distinctive emblem that encapsulates the club's rich history and maritime heritage. Established in 1861, the YCQ is among the oldest yacht clubs in North America, and its flag, or burgee, adopted in 1885, reflects its longstanding traditions and identity.

The YCQ burgee is a triangular pennant featuring three diagonal stripes: red, white, and blue, with a yellow star centered on the white stripe. The red stripe symbolizes courage and passion, the white denotes purity and integrity, and the blue represents loyalty and perseverance. The yellow star serves as a beacon, guiding sailors and representing excellence in navigation. This design not only identifies the club's vessels but also embodies the values and spirit of its members.

The adoption of the burgee in 1885 coincided with a revival of the club after a period of dormancy due to economic challenges and the migration of members to Montreal. A group of 19 yachtsmen reconvened to rejuvenate the club, selecting the burgee as a unifying symbol of their renewed commitment to yachting and camaraderie.

Today, the YCQ burgee remains a proud symbol flown by members, representing over 160 years of nautical tradition. It signifies the club's enduring presence in the maritime community and its dedication to promoting sailing and fellowship among enthusiasts.
